October 20/2020: Pinay Collection x Groggy Owl Thoughts

@pinaycollection is reclaiming words that have been used to stigmatize pinxys. Maarte is no longer a drama queen, but an assertive, empowered femme. Bruha is no longer an evil “witch”, but a divine connection with our two-spirit ancestors, the Babaylan, who were the beloved spiritual leaders in early Filipinx & Spanish culture before the civilizing mission. Maganda means beautiful, like Jennifer “Ganda” Laude. She was a trans woman in Olongapo killed by a US Marine, who was then pardoned by the government. Her voice lives on, and will be remembered in the liberation of trans folx being pressured by an increasingly transphobic hegemon. Rocking this jewellery would be a great way to give a gift or express empowerment. Love it!
